Renco Drives Ravenna's 37 MWp Solar Energy Transition
RAVENNA – Where the heart of the oil industry once beat, the foundations for a zero-emission future are now being laid. Renco announces the start of works for a new, impressive 37.16 MWp photovoltaic plant within the Port of Ravenna. This is not merely an engineering contract; it is a true manifesto of urban and industrial regeneration.
The project comes to life in the "Ex SAROM" area, a disused industrial site of approximately 44 hectares (437,000 m²) that will be transformed into a clean energy hub. This initiative, with a total value of approximately €30 million, is the result of a public-private partnership between Renco and the Port System Authority of Ravenna, with the operational support of Adriasol and SEP Energia.
A GREEN ENERGY HUB FOR "COLD IRONING"
The goal is as ambitious as it is necessary: to guarantee the port's energy self-production and power the "Cold Ironing" system. This technology will allow large cruise ships to switch off their engines while docked and connect directly to the quay's electrical grid, drastically reducing emissions and noise pollution, benefiting both the city and the marine ecosystem.
' This project perfectly embodies our 'Live the Planet Better' philosophy. We are not just installing photovoltaic panels; we are regenerating a historic area to give the Port of Ravenna the energy independence it needs to compete globally, while fully respecting the environment '
A RACE AGAINST TIME AND CERTIFIED SUSTAINABILITY
The construction site will follow a challenging "Fast Track" schedule, with the objective of delivering the project and connecting it to the national grid by June 2026. This race against time is supported by PNRR funds (National Recovery and Resilience Plan, approximately €7 million), which demand excellence not only in timing but also in methodology.
In line with the rigorous DNSH (Do No Significant Harm) principles, every phase of construction is accompanied by a strict environmental monitoring plan. Water, air, soil and noise levels are constantly analyzed to ensure the ecological transition honours the territory that hosts us.
BEYOND CONSTRUCTION
A LONG-TERM COMMITMENT
Renco's role will not end with the plants commissioning. The company will manage Operation & Maintenance (O&M) activities for the next 25 years, ensuring that the solar park maintains maximum efficiency over time.
With the construction of a new transformer substation and a dedicated transmission line, Ravenna is set to become a virtuous model for sustainable ports in the Mediterranean. Another concrete step towards a world where energy drives development and respect for the planet.
