Ja.Ca.Mbé Afforestation and Reforestation Project
The Ja.Ca.Mbé (Jardin Carbon de Mbè) Initiative is a transformative afforestation and reforestation project situated in Mbé, in the Republic of Congo. The visionary initiative will restore 40,000 hectares of degraded Savannah lands with the objective to create carbon sinks which will then be generated into carbon credits to be sold on the voluntary market. Beyond the project’s ecological goals, lies a deep commitment to the local community of the region, as we work across the development of key projects in health, education and infrastructure, to support and uplift the people at the heart of Mbé.
In detail
Ja.Ca.Mbé, operated by Renco's Congolese subsidiary, Renco Green SARLU, holds a 30-year concession from the Congolese Government to manage 40,000 hectares of land in Plateau Batéké. Part of the ProNAR program by the Ministry of Forestry Affairs of the Republic of Congo, Ja.Ca.Mbé focuses on afforestation of degraded savannah lands and preserving and reforesting existing forest patches. Renco Green SARLU will also address social, environmental, and economic aspects of the concession, committed to sustainable development.
The project is aligned to several critical goals which include:
- Ensuring that the land will be developed in key stages year-on-year
- Committing to supporting the local communities across essential areas
- Ensuring that we certify the carbon credit produced through the project
