Rimini’s new covered market

Renco’s project for the new covered market in Rimini was approved by the local town council. Following the go-ahead for the project financing feasibility plan, the Municipality of Rimini must now call a tender. Long-awaited for months, this move takes us a step closer to the revamping of an important facility of Rimini’s city centre.

In Mayor Sadegholvaad’s words: “On the one hand, we want to revamp the covered market so that operators can have more modern and functional spaces compared to the existing ones, which date to the 1960s. But we also want to make it more attractive for tourists, by making it operational throughout the entire day. Refurbished spaces and the inclusion of bistros and restaurants will transform the venue into a ‘palace of taste’, as it has been defined.”

The call for tender will also include the relocation of the operators to a temporary area for a few months. Only then will the current structure be demolished and the new one built, with an expected total investment amounting to over 24 million Euro.

The structure of the covered market, which dates to the second post-war period, will be demolished and then entirely rebuilt: the actual market will be reconstructed on the ground floor. The first floor will house 90 operators and the Conad supermarket, while the second floor will include cafés, restaurants and bistros. The project also involves the revamping of the outside with glass and wood. And also a square. The works are expected to last two years and the Emilia-Romagna Regional Authority has set aside 1.5 million Euro for public services.
