Logistics Project Development Building

Renco designed and is currently building a new industrial port in Pemba, Mozambique, within the Group’s hundred-hectare property that will also include a logistics and operating base for offshore plants. Groups such as Eni and Total are involved in strategic offshore investments in the area of the Afungi peninsula. The project marks Renco Group’s biggest investment in the sector for the years to come.

In detal

The project includes a port with an integrated logistics hub. The investment aims to create an industrial area unique for its size and functions compared to existing facilities in that area of the African coast. The port and logistics hub will be connected to the national road through a dedicated private road, which will not have private traffic.

' Currently there are no facilities with the specific characteristics of the Pemba Bulk Terminal in that part of Eastern Africa. No ports have similar characteristics in terms of easy access, high draught and extension towards the sea, plus an extensive area for the logistics and industrial base dedicated to gas '

CLOSE-UP ON THE PROJECT

The Pemba Bulk Terminal project will initially involve the construction of a 300-metre-long quay integrated by a floating pontoon 120 metres long and 20 metres wide, with a 12-metre draught. The infrastructure will ensure mooring operations for transporting materials and offshore plants for Afungi. In the second phase, lasting 36 months, the port will be completed with a second quay measuring 300 by 200 metres.

The first part of the quay will connect the mainland to the sea and will be made of concrete. Another part of the infrastructure, connected to the concrete quay, is the steel floating pontoon that extends into the sea, so as to reach the maximum draught of 12 metres for large ships to moor.

QUALITY OBJECTIVES

Currently there are no facilities with the specific characteristics of the Pemba Bulk Terminal in that part of Eastern Africa. No ports have such easy accesses and, above all, the same high draught and extension towards the sea. Moreover, the port offers an unrivalled surface area for housing the logistics and industrial base.

The operations and maintenance activities require monitoring and assistance by multidisciplinary specialists. This type of assistance cannot be provided wholly from on board the ship. These services, for the level of quality required, are currently not available in the Pemba area. The industrial activities involved constitute essential services.
